Alex’s Blog

I was reminded more than once today that tomorrow is Teaser Tuesday. Usually, I pull a line of dialogue from Double Threats Go S.L.Y. and post it on Twitter and Facebook. This week, I thought I’d do something a little special.
One Teaser Tuesday revealed Alex getting knocked the heck out by Travis. I got a couple of hate tweets for that one. Come on now. Alex is far from perfect and I promise he deserved every bit of Travis’ fist against his nose. But what happened after Travis flattened him? You want to know? You really want to know?
Here’s a little discussion between Alex and Ben after the big K.O.:
(Told from Alex’s point of view)
“You okay?” Ben asks, chuckling as I  sling blood from my nose.
“Yeah. I’m fine. Probably looks worse than it is,” I tell him. That shit hurt like hell, but do you think I’m going to complain. If Meggie wasn’t there, I would’ve beat the shit out of that little punk ass.
Ben tosses me some napkins from his glove compartment and I start soaking up the blood. It feels like it’s stopped coming down, but just seconds ago, my nose was like a fucking faucet. My hands are stained red, and I don’t even want to know what my face looks like.
“Here.” Ben hands me a small gym towel this time. “Let’s get the hell out of here before he comes back and kicks your ass some more.” The bastard chuckles again.
“Real funny,” I sneer.  “And he didn’t kick my ass.”
“Whatever, just get in the car and don’t make a mess. If I find one speck of blood on my seats, your ass is paying for a detail.”
We’re almost all the way down the mountain before Ben says anything. I half expected him to be the one to knock me out. I’m such an idiot. It’s just that Meg is driving me mad. I can’t believe some of the shit that comes out of my mouth when I’m around her. You’d think I’d be cool since I don’t get to see her very often, but for some reason, I just can’t keep myself from coming off like an asshole.
“So what’s your problem dude?” Ben asks, gripping the steering wheel tighter. I knew he’d be pissed. It was only a matter of time before the chuckling stopped. I don’t say anything. I don’t know what to say. “You’re lucky Travis got to you first or I would have hit you myself.”
I roll up one of the napkins and shove it into my right nostril. I put the rest of the tissue in my pocket, and try using the towel to wipe the blood off my hands but it’s useless.
“Fuck,” I say, pounding my hands on my knees. “I need to call her.”
“And what makes you think she wants to talk to you.”
“I need to apologize.”
“Maybe. But not now. Just leave her alone,” Ben shouts.
My throat tightens at the thought of not talking to Meg again. “I can’t. I miss her.”
“I know you do, but you have a funny way of showing it.”
“It’s that bitch ass Travis. If he wasn’t around every time I saw her, I’d be fine. But once I see him, I get all crazy. It sucks seeing her with someone else.”
“Travis is actually pretty cool,” he says with a smirk on his face. Now, I want to deck him. “And they’re not together. Not officially anyway.”
“How can you be friends with him when you’re my friend? You should be keeping other guys away from Meg when I’m at away at school.”
“No can do, bro.” He shakes his head. “She’s my friend too, and as long as she’s happy, I’m cool with Travis, or anyone else who treats her right.”
“I want her back, Ben. I need to get her back.” I know I sound like a chick, but I don’t care. I spent the whole summer without my girl and I’m not doing it again. I don’t give a shit if she’s too young for me. She’s my best friend, and I need her.
“Well, that’s not gonna happen if you keep acting like a dick.” Leave it to Ben to put me in my place.
“Yeah, I know.” I stare out the window, gazing at the buildings flying by. “From now on, I’m gonna be so smooth when I see Meggie, she’ll forget all about Travis. We’ll be back together by Christmas at the latest.” I glare at my friend who just let out a snort. Whatever. “But first, I need to get her to talk to me.”
Ben shakes his head again. “Well, good luck with that.”
No kidding. I’m going to need all the luck I can get.
Ben drops me off at my house, but instead of going in, I take out my keys and jump into my own car.
I fumble with the cell phone in my hand, trying to figure out how to say I’m sorry.
After several minutes of going over different scenarios in my head, I finally settle on a text message.
Hi Megan. I need to talk to you. Can I come over?

For weeks, Alex has been whispering in my ear on my drive home. Or more like yelling. He wants Meggie back. And he wants her back now. Who knows, maybe I’ll listen to him. Maybe I won’t. We have a long way to go for him to prove he’s worthy of the Megster.
So what do you think? Should Meg and Alex get back together?
