Let the Countdown to NKOTBSB Begin…

Hey! Don’t judge! This is a perfectly acceptable blog post. Especially for someone who’s been impatiently awaiting for July 6th to arrive for what feels like for-effing-ever.
In honor of what will be my 10th time seeing New Kids On The Block, I’d thought I’d share with you my journey as a Blockhead. Yes, I said it. I’m a Blockhead and not the slightest bit afraid to say it loud and say it proud.
The Beginning
Let’s go all the way back to junior high (circa 1989ish), my era of permed and teased hair, unplucked eyebrows, and denim overalls–with one side down, of course. Lol. During this time, I was fortunate to see NK perform at Magic Mountain, and two outdoor venues which were called Universal Amphitheater and Irvine Meadows back in the day.
I had the best time ever taking all
this NKOTB swag out of old boxes
and going through it all. Everything
remained in excellent condition.
To the Universal show, there were about five teenage girls piled in hatchback, and it was the first time I ever went anywhere without adults. It was overwhelming, but so worth it to see the boys even from the cheap seats. Thanks Alissa, for inviting me.
My cousin and his girlfriend took three of us to see NK in Irvine. Hey Heather (I forgot the other girl’s name). We had much better seats and I can remember thinking, Oh My God, I can actualy see the sweat dripping from Donnie’s face, and he looked delicious. I was 13ish and I was thinking a sweaty guy was yummy. My parents were in for some big trouble. My cousin who was twenty-something at the time had no problem telling his friends he was going to a New Kids concert. He really did like their music, but he also said it was a great pick-up line for all the chicks. He would say, “Hi, I’m Ron, and I like New Kids on the Block,” and the women would flock to him. Haha. That still makes me laugh.
My only picture from back in the day
where I’m wearing my NKOTB jacket.
I know it’s blurry but it’s the best I
could do. The guy was my boyfriend
in 8th grade for a whopping 4 months
or so. He is now happily married
 to his high school sweetheart.
During those years, I saved all my money from birthdays and Christmas to buy the highly coveted official New Kids on the Block Jacket! Yes, I still have it! Along with all my other NK gear (telephone, comic books, posters, trading cards, fanny pack, buttors galore, etc.). The day the jacket came, I ran around my house in hysterics. My brother took it to a local sporting goods store to have my name embroidered on the front. Amazing! I wore it to school with so much pride and I think I would’ve killed for it. The jacket was like my baby. Another girl at school had the same jacket, and some little beeyotches smeared lipstick all over it. I hope they were all doomed to a lifetime of terrible sex. Serves the brats (to put it nicely) right for being so stupid. I wonder what music they liked at the time. I bet their teeny bopper heartthrobs didin’t surprise them with a come back twenty years later. But mine did. 😉

Check it out…there’s more. Most of
items are about 2-3 things deep. :)

Other quick memories of the early years  include bawling when my brother bought me the “Step by Step” VHS. I thought I was going to die. I just cried and cried because I couldn’t believe he got me something so precious. It was quite touching. Okay, so I was a little insane at the time. I also have a VHS of all their live performances on TV like when they were on Arsenio Hall or the Apollo.

For my 16th birthday, my friends had a surprise New Kids themed birthday party for me. They picked up all sorts of NK party gear at a discount store and I happily bathed in the moment, eating cake off of NK plates and drinking out of NK cups. I was just as much in love with them then as I was the first time I heard Please Don’t Go Girl and  I heard Danny’s deep sexy voice at the beginning.

Who knew 20 years later, Donnie
would be giving kisses away for free.
LOL. 😉
I can’t tell you how many times over the years my sister has frantically called me to put on a certain radio station. And when I finally get tuned in, I catch the end of This One’s for the Children, or I’ll Be Loving You ForeverIn those moments, I immediately feel the gidiness I once felt as a young girl listening to her favorite band.

And let’s not forget about the Christmas album. I know the guys are not all that happy about having done a holiday album, but not a season has passed that I don’t treasure listening to it. “Slippin’ and slidin’ through the city streets…” will forever be engrained in my memory. :)
To Be Continued…
From now until July 6th, I will be posting a piece of my countdown to NKOTBSB baby! So make sure you come back. You don’t want to miss any of the following…

Fast Forward to 2008
Holy shit! They’re back…

Danny Kissed Me
With my program in hand, and Danny buttons stuck to my shirts, it was my turn to meet New Kids on The Block:
Staples Center
Words cannot do justice in describing how exciting it was to see them again…
Oh my Jorday, Baby I Believe in You…(need a fan).

American Music Awards
Oh hell yes, we represented from the cheap seats…
1st kiss was a sweet kiss…

San Diego-Cox Arena
So I ran all the way down from the top and was closest I’ve ever been to the B Stage. Freaking awesome!
The stairs at this arena are scary….good thing I brought my Chucks.

Nokia Theater
Heck yes, I had the aisle seat and got to briefly (nanosecond) hold Danny’s hand as they ran by. :)

Jimmy Kimmel
What a blast! Nothing like camping out with a bunch of Blockheads.
Jason Mesnik was a guest that night too. Booo!

Irvine (Back again with even better seats!)
Loved the slide show of pictures during One Song! Wow!
Ladies…Jesse McCartney says, “I’m legal!” Hahaha!

It’s Almost Time…
Let’s Get This!

Until then, I leave you with my favorite New Kids song from back in the day: My Favorite Girl. Everytime I hear this song, it’s like I’m 14 again, standing in front of my TV doing all the dance moves right along with the guys on the Hangin’ Tough Live movie. It was a daily routine, and I still have all the moves down. If you were to see me driving along the freeway, you’d see my hands moving from side to side and up and down along with the song. I absolutely love it!

And if I’m not mistaken…Is Jordan doing a little bit of shufflin’ in this video? Haha. All the old shit always comes back, with just a new name and spin. :)
