School’s Out!

It’s been way too long since I last updated my website, and yesterday I got a little ambitious. What started out as a look into Blogger vs. WordPress turned into a major overhaul of my original website. As I explored further, I noticed the option of adding “pages” on Blogger. Totally cool! And so my new site was born. I can do many things with my new Blogger site that I couldn’t do before. For instance, I downloaded the Blogger mobile app. I can now send in updates directly from my phone. I can take a picture, write a post, and publish it in an instant. I actually did it last night and it worked! My old website and blog were not very user-friendly and both were a pain to even log-in to. Now, all is right in the world and everything has been transferred from the old to the new.
I really love how my new site looks and I am in awe of all the features. I’m hoping you all love it too. That is if someone is reading this. I could very well be talking to myself. Hello? Anyone there?
Moving on…let’s get down to business.
School’s out! Let my summer vacation begin! How many exclamations should I type so you know how ecstatic I am to stay up late every night and sleep in every morning? !!!!!!! That many? Maybe more? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think you get the idea.
This is the first summer ever I’m not teaching summer school, and I must say, I love it! It’s been two weeks since that last bell rang through my classroom, and I’ve been having a blast since.
Three things have consumed my life these last few weeks:
1.       Writing…a new book. A romantic comedy with the working title: After School Special.
High school teacher, with the mouth of a truck driver, Shelly Goodwin, spent most of her life on the arm of Chase Cooper, a sexy colleague with milk chocolate brown eyes and abs you fall in lust with. Chase would’ve done anything to make his Shell Bell happy, that is until Summer Garcia, the new science teacher with an ass that would make Kim Kardashian jealous, came along and dug her fake acrylic claws into him. Single men surround Shell, but now she’s made it a rule not to date anyone from work. Rules were meant to be broken though, and Matt Fuller has been waiting on the sidelines for the chance to steal Shelly’s heart. Sounds like the students aren’t the only ones causing drama in the halls of Carver High.
2.       Reading…romance novels (and I’m not talking about YA either). Particularly those written by Marie Force and Kristan Higgins. I’m addicted.

How can you resist this?
I never thought I’d like reading with an electronic reader, but since my husband bought me a Nook for Christmas, I’m have officially become addicted. The ease of reading and purchasing books could be dangerous for some because books are just a click away. I can see spending A LOT more on eBooks just because it’s so darn easy to get what you’re looking for in seconds, rathen than having to drive to the book store. I started with reading just a sample of Marie Force’s Everyone Loves a Hero, and within minutes I had to press the Buy Now button. When I was done, I clicked on more by the same author and I got more. Eight more in fact, that I devoured in one sitting each.

I’m a huge football fan!

I am impatiently awaiting the ninth book in my Marie Force addiction to come on July 1stReady for Love (#3 in the McCarthy’s Gansett Island series). My knee is bouncing up and down in anticipation of reading Luke and Sydney’s story. Can Luke be just as endearing and hot as Mac and Joe? I can’t wait to find out.
My love for books by Kristan Higgins began with reading All I Ever Wanted, then My One and Only, then Fools Rush In (which quite possibly has some of the funniest one-liners of any book I’ve ever read), and Just One of the Guys. I still have four more to go, but I am only allowing myself to read them as a treat. Kind of a reward system for writing. Write some pages, read KH, write more pages, read more KH. Don’t get me wrong. I love writing. I just love a good book too. Especially those that are guaranteed a happily ever after. J
Love story & Humor!
On another note, I wonder if I would have read seven books in the last two weeks if they weren’t just a finger tap away. Hmmm. I’m not sure, but I better hurry up and write some more of After School Special if I want to dig into Catch of the Day (another one by KH).
I wasn’t expecting this…
I know, I know…but this show is like crack to me. When it’s not on, I start twitching and scouring the menu guide for reruns. But this season is in one word: AMAZING!  Well, as amazing as you can get with dialogue that most commonly consists of the word “Sex” every thirty seconds. But the issues they’re dealing with aren’t too common to teen TV at all. Last night, as I watched and wept, I couldn’t believe the writers took on the topic of a teen mom losing her baby. At seven to eight months along in the pregnancy, the baby is considered still-born. The actors did an amazing job portraying the pain and I hope next week they’re able to touch on possible causes, or that sometimes there isn’t a cause. If they are going to go this far to show teens real life, I hope they will continue to inform them on what happened. And…as I’m a RAMY fan, I hope they leave those two kids alone. They’ve been through enough and are finally happy. Let Ricky and Amy finally move on with their relationship, without Ben and Adrian!

So that’s me for the last couple of weeks, and probably the rest of the summer. J I’ll be back to talk about some more good reads, and maybe post an excerpt of After School Special.
Till then…
Write on!
