T-8 Days: Countdown to NKOTBSB

A sign at Best Buy
I have to tell ya, I’m really enjoying this countdown so far. As the days get closer, I’m going to get so antsy and if my luck fails me like it has for every other New Kids event, I will more than likely break out with a big giant zit the day before the concert. It happens like clockwork. I’ll try to put stuff on it, but the more I try, the worse it’ll get. Next Wednesday, I may have to bust out the Windex. Hey, it’s worth a shot.
When they rose up on that platform
at the beginning of Single, I
almost peed my pants, I was so
effing excited!
After our Meet & Greet at Best Buy, I bought my first tickets for The Block Reunion Tour. I knew I’d be going more than once, so I didn’t splurge on expensive seats. Come to think of it, Shani had already purchased our 4* tickets for the Nokia show, and I decided to go for cheap seats at the Staples Center. Honestly, I couldn’t wait until November, when I knew the guys would be in California in October. And then, I couldn’t wait until the Nokia show when they were going to be in San Diego sooner than that. And then, I couldn’t wait until San Diego when they were going to perform at the American Music Awards the day before that.
Donnie says “Thank you” to the
fans for coming back. Duh, as if
there was any doubt.
Insane. I know. That’s how I ended up getting tickets to see New Kids On The Block 4 times in the matter of two months. But hey, I did have a little bit of self control. I didn’t travel to northern California for a show (even though in my book, Double Threat My Bleep, Meg’s mom drives to San Jose to see her favorite boy band). See. While I didn’t hold back in fiction, I did exercise some restraint in real life.
I went to the Staples Center concert with two friends: Paula and her daughter Elizabeth. Liz shared stories with me about having a NKOTB birthday party when she was just a little girl. Aww. How cute! We listened to The Block the whole way there.
I asked this girl if I could take a
picture of her shirt! Nuff said!
It was so much fun seeing so many women decked out in vintage NK tees, or those who turned old NK sheets and pillow cases into halter tops. Others created their own shirts from places like Customized Girl, or Zazzle. And some went old school with puffy paints and iron-ons. For this concert, I was a little reserved. I didn’t sport any NK gear but my Danny buttons.
I did however hit the merchandise counter and got a keychain, Property of Danny Wood shirt, Danny’s Coming Home cd, and a tour book.
Zoomed all the way in and yet, they
are still so far away. :(
When the fab five from Boston hit the stage, it was amazing. I was in awe. They seriously put on 2 hours of the most incredible show I have ever seen. There wasn’t a person sitting in the whole arena. When they did Hangin’ Tough, it was like traveling back in time and seeing my first concert all over again. Every hand was in the air, swaying back and forth. I don’t know about everyone else, but I can remember a few tears falling. It was so overwhelming in such a positive way.

I had to post the video above, even though it’s not the best quality. I just love to see all those hands in the air. It’s like no time had passed. We all knew what to do. We still got it! :) It’s a little cultish, huh. Lol.

I think about all the music my daughters listen to and wish that when they’re my age, they can experience something like I have with NK. Unfortunately, I don’t think they will. I can’t think of one group or single person in today’s music that has the staying power or the level of loyal fans that NKOTB had back then and still does today. At least they’ve had the chance to experience this with me.

Best costume ever!
For Halloween, I dressed up as a Blockhead. I even plugged in my NK phone at work and used it. Lol. I combined all my vintage wear with the new stuff. Still so bummed that I didn’t get the track jacket. Darn!
Now, stay tuned tomorrow. My pictures and stories get better as I get closer to the stage at each concert. And, as I meet fellow Blockheads from around the world!

Till next time…”So you don’t gotta be alone…” watch this video!
